Hmmm, guess I should post a update for myself, since I have neglected to mention my trip and getting to meet Eilonwy, I'll start there.
I flew to Oregan to visit my Dad for his birthday and just a general get to see him. Aside from last minute crisis day before my trip, the trip itself was fine. I had a nice pleasent visit and took way too many pictures of the dog who I suspect is my younger brother. LOL Nothing special, went shopping, went to a movie, watched TV, didn't sleep as much as I wanted too. [img]wink.gif[/img]
But I finally got to meet Eilonwy! Who turned out to not be the axe-murderer my step-mom has heard all internet people are. (Hence last minute crisis...)
Nope, Eilonwy turned out to be just as boring as I thought she would be. [img]wink.gif[/img]
After torturing her husband with picture taking and sending him on his way, we then tortured each other with pictures. I got to see her horse, eating, waiting to eat, wondering if you brought him anything to eat...(hmmmm, I sense a trend)
Since turn about is fair play, I then tortured her with kitty kat pictures of my two furballs. And boy did I have a lot of pictures of them!
Oh and *couch* pictures of many of your mugs... (Don't know how they got in that suitcase...)
We mostly hung out, cruises the wussiest mall in America, trust me, Friday night and this mall was Dead with a capital D! Half the stores were closed [img]frown.gif[/img]
But! The hotel had cable so we got to watch all our Sci-Fi and eat junk food, namely chocolate bought at sucky mall. It was very cool to watch Stargate and Farscape together. And talk, gossip, etc. It was also great to put a face with the type on the screen. She is doing well and sends her regards to everyone. One of these days she may get her lazy ass on this board as well. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Well, I started my new job at Target. I like it. I would like it better if I hadn't been sick on my first day. The day before I started work, I had a temperature all day. I almost never get a temperature, so when it was creeping towards 103 I was feeling very not so great. But Monday temp was down enough to drag myself into work. And work has been where I have been at all week.

I need some computer advice. I've been having computer problems, at the moment things are sort of worked out (the difficulty was that our video card died, we have a new one and it's incompatible with all my hubby's games, naturally, but it works), but I'm unable to log into Earthlink and get to our start page or use the Netscape email program on the computer, so we're using Webmail, which I hate doing.
We have Windows 95, which is no longer supported by Microsnot. The people at the computer store who built our computer and who have fixed it for us a few times, told me we need to consider getting another hard drive and updating our operating system. Good idea... if only I had a job. I'm still looking. The job market here sucks. But that's not what I wanted to ask about.
I'm thinking about jumping off the Microsnot bandwagon. I've been looking into Linux, and was wondering if anybody out there had any good words, bad words, advice, comments, whatever on it. I was able to find out that there's a... what, a program, or plug-in, or something, called WINE that will allow Linux to run MS software, which means I won't necessarily have to go out and buy MS Office again, which would suck. I know Linux has its own word processing program, database program, spreadsheet program, etc. etc. etc. but I'm kind of used to Word, Access and Excel.
Anyway... anybody got any good advice?

I guess it really depends on how technical you are oriented. Linux is a great OS, but requires more knowledge on your part as to what the computer has in terms of hardware. It's more "adjustable", which is great if you're good at adjusting...but as a system that comes out of the box and runs as is, Windows (unfortunately) is a better option. Having said that, Linux probably has a fantastic support group out there on the internet, as so many people are just fed up with Microsoft. If you're really interested, do some research. Ask questions at a linux-based board. It's one of those things where the more information you get the better things are. Be prepared for getting into details. For example, the video card. Microsoft usually just has you plug it in and if it works, great. Linux will have different options to set before the video card can be used. If you understand the details, the card works great. Otherwise, the defaults are like using Windows...it may not work at all.
My background is Unix, not Linux. There are some subtle differences, so I can't really go into any specifics on Linux.
If you stick with Windows, stay <u><bold>away</bold></u> from Windows Me. If there was ever a Microsoft method to prove lemmings will march into the sea, Windows Me is it.
